According to the Ministry of Education, the exact number of applicants for this year is 12.91 million, a record high since matriculation resumed in 1977. Their exams will last from two to four days, depending on their choice of subjects. The annual exam is deemed the most important event for high school graduates, as it provides an opportunity to set the direction for their future careers. This year's college entrance exam is the first one after China adjusted its COVID-19 response measures. Health and emergency response measures have been put in place for COVID-19, as well as other medical emergencies such as heat strokes and injuries.
